CNN shines a spotlight on laptop computer shortage

At give IT. get IT., we provide tools and opportunities in the form of PC’s and laptop computers for people who are going through a tough time. People who have been laid off, people seeking a fresh start from a bad relationship, people who didn’t do well in high school or dropped out of college but now realize they need to get serious about their education.

For whatever reason (and we don’t judge), the people we work with don’t have much money which forces some sacrifices. Eating out? Forget it. Cable TV? No chance. Internet? If its available in their town, it is often prohibitively expensive. That’s why for many give IT. get IT. clients, laptop computers are the machine of choice. Laptop computers are powerful and easy to use. Most importantly, laptops are easy to take to school, a coffee shopor any place else that has free WiFi so our clients can connect to the internet and do their homework.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and so many people working and learning from home, demand for laptop computers is at an all-time high. The situation is so dire, CNN wrote about it last week:

FIRST TOILET PAPER, THEN YEAST. NOW LAPTOPS ARE HARD TO FIND.

Right now, give IT. get IT. has more requests for laptop computers than we can hope to fulfill which is causing real pain for our clients and thousands of other people. Just last week, 100 Kennebec Valley Community College students missed the first day of class because they couldn’t afford a computer.

That’s not just sad. It’s wrong.

To make this situation even more difficult, as companies struggle with decreased revenues due to the most challenging business conditions since the ’08 recession, many are choosing to hold onto their current equipment instead of purchasing new computers and sending their old tech to us. Simply put, our need for reusable PC’s and laptop computers has never been greater.

We’re doing everything we can to tell businesses of all sizes about this unprecedented need for our services. We need your help to spread the word. Please share the link to this blog post with everyone you know and encourage them to do the same. The more PC’s and laptop computers we receive the more people we can help to acquire new skills, stay competitive and rebuild their lives.

Thank you for your help. If you know a business that can benefit from our e-waste recycling services or has outdated technology they can donate to us, please send them our way!
