Tablets Support Bereavement Peer Support Groups at The Center for Grieving Children

The Center for Grieving Children is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a safe space, loving peer support, outreach, and education to children, teens, families, and young adults navigating the challenges of grief. Recognizing that grief is a natural response to loss and that each individual’s experience is unique, the Center offers a compassionate environment where participants can share their feelings and experiences without judgment.

At the heart of the Center’s services are peer support groups tailored to various age groups and specific needs. These groups foster connection among individuals who have experienced similar losses, facilitating mutual support and understanding. For children aged 3 to 18 and their caregivers, the Center offers weekly sessions incorporating art, music, talking, and play, allowing families to process their grief collectively. Young adults between 19 and 30 can participate in specialized groups that address their unique challenges during this transitional life stage.

Additionally, bereaved parents and young widowers or partners have access to groups that provide focused support, acknowledging the profound impact of losing a child or partner.

Recently, give IT. get IT. helped donate 20 tablets with bluetooth communicator headsets and keyboards to the Center, helping expand the scope of reach for these services.

“This will help increase access to bereavement peer support groups,” says Emma Walker, Director of Philanthropy. With this enhanced technology, the Center can better connect with individuals and families who may not be able to attend in person, ensuring that more people can access the vital resources and community the Center offers.

“Each person, both young and old, parent or child, needs the safety of their own space—whether through their group in person or online in their own breakout room. The tablets allow our clients to be themselves and have a safe space to express,” states Walker.

Understanding the importance of accessibility, the Center provides its services free of charge, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder individuals from receiving the support they need. The organization also emphasizes outreach and education, offering resources and training to schools, community organizations, and professionals to better support grieving individuals within the broader community.

“Grief is deeply personal, and everyone deserves a safe space to process it in their own way. By providing these tablets, we’re making sure that children, families, and young adults can connect with the support they need, no matter where they are. It means so much to be able to help the Center for Grieving Children continue their incredible work, ensuring that no one has to navigate loss alone,” states Jodi Martin, Co-founder of give IT. get IT.
